Navdy Ships First Augmented Driving Device

In 2013, we set out to create a product that revolutionizes the way we interact with technology in our car. The concept was met with much fanfare, and over $7 million in pre-sale orders were received. The road to production was long and, sometimes, arduous. But today, we made it. We’ve officially shipped the very first production Navdy, the world’s first augmented driving device.

Naturally, it’s a momentous day for us in the office. (Literal) blood, sweat and tears went into refining this product, and we believe it delivers on our promise of a whole new driving experience. For our loyal supporters who have patiently waited, we thank you from the bottom of our heart. It’s your support that made this possible.

For those awaiting shipments or looking to buy a Navdy, here’s what you can expect from the device:

  • Augmented reality display: Navdy's advanced display projects information into the distance so the road stays in focus. The full color, fully transparent image is ultra-clear and visible in direct sunlight and automatically dims at night.
  • Natural hand gestures: Whether you want to accept, dismiss, or return a call, Navdy’s natural gestures let you effortlessly interact with simple swipes of your hand.
  • Maps: Navdy is powered by Google Maps, and features built-in offline maps, built-in GPS and real-time traffic, so you’ll remain on the fastest route regardless of whether your cell phone has network coverage.

  • Messages and notifications: Navdy will read aloud messages and notifications from your phone, and you can reply via Siri or Google Now. Navdy connects with many of the apps you love, such as iMessage, Mail, Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, Slack, and more.

  • Dash: Navdy Dash lets you customize your dashboard with key driver information, like speed limit, MPG, fuel range, RPM, compass, and more.

Navdy combines cutting-edge technology to tackle an issue felt globally — distracted driving.

It’s currently illegal to have a phone in your hand while driving in 14 states, and texting while driving is illegal in 46. Still, the National Safety Council attributes more than a million crashes a year to drivers on cell phones, and the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention reports distracted driving plays a role in crashes that kill eight and injure another 1,200 people every single day.

Navdy is the first solution in the market to seamlessly bring together phone, car and navigation information all in one easy and safe user interface. It lets you keep your eyes on the road ahead, look forward, and stay connected.

Naturally, we think you’ll love the product, and we know it will make you a safer, smarter driver. We’ll also be constantly refining our technology, sending out updates over the cloud. If there’s a feature you wish your Navdy had, chances are we’ve already thought of it. Be sure to keep an eye on our blog for announcements on what’s to come.
