Navdy extends the apps you already have on your phone. No service plans required.
Nothing could be more natural swipe left to answer a call, or right to dismiss an untimely notification. No more looking down to fumble with knobs, buttons or touch screens.
Ask Navdy to "compose new tweet", "write new text" or "call mom" using the voice commands you're already familiar with - Google Now or Siri.
Frequently Asked Questions
Navdy is a head-up-display device for your car that lets you view and respond to critical information without taking your eyes off the road. Its core features include:
Navdy’s HUD was designed by our team of industry-leading optical engineers to create the most natural driving experience possible. It works by projecting an image onto a transparent plastic lens that magnifies the image and makes it appear to float outside the car’s windshield. The image is focused into the distance so that the driver never has to look away from the road. When combined with touchless gesture controls, it all comes together to create a truly magical experience.
Navdy works with the voice recognition systems you are already familiar with on your phone, like Siri and Google Now.
Notifications appear on the side of the display. If you choose to respond to the notification, you’ll enter a split-screen mode. This allows you to get real-time notifications without losing sight of critical navigation information. You can also disable any notifications from appearing while you’re driving, and instead choose to only see them when the car is stationary.
Navdy supports Google Maps turn by turn directions, any notification appearing on your phone (such as Text Messages, Calendar alerts, WhatsApp, etc), Phone calls, Google Now, Siri, and popular music player apps including Spotify, Pandora, iTunes and Google Play. It can also display information from your car such as RPM, Miles to Empty, and more. Our in-house developers will create more apps after the units ship.
You can install Navdy in a few simple steps. First, you’ll need to download the Navdy app to your Android or IOS device, as it will guide you through the process. Next, connect your Navdy to your car's OBD II port or the 12V power outlet. Then unpeel the “friction mount” protective backing and stick the Navdy to the dashboard centered in front of you. After that you can pair your phone to the Navdy and walk through the final usage instructions that will appear on the HUD.
Navdy is powered by your car’s on-board diagnostics (OBD II) port, but that’s also how it communicates with your car! The OBD II port can output information like your car’s speed, RPM, mileage, fuel, check engine status, etc. Navdy is developing multiple “dashboards” that display your car’s internal statistics in real time. You can choose different dashboards that prioritize speed, fuel economy, or maintenance, so that the information that is the most important to you is available at all times. Most vehicles manufactured before 1996 won't have an OBD II port, but you can still power Navdy through the 12V power outlet - you just won't have access to the OBD data.
Navdy connects to your Android or iOS phone via bluetooth. The inital pairing is straightforward. Navdy will then subsequently auto-connect.
As new features and apps are developed, your Navdy device’s firmware will need to be updated. You will be notified about updates through your smartphone's Navdy app.
Our pre-order campaign is to gauge interest from early adopters. Early adopters will receive email updates about our progress and occasional surveys about features and options that they want to see in the final product. Our referral program allows you to earn credits, which will be deducted from the cost you paid for your Navdy. Your credit card will be charged immediately upon purchase. Once the units have been produced, they will be shipped to our early adopters. Demand is far outstripping manufacturing capacity and we are sold out through June 2016. Anyone that pre-ordered Navdy prior to December 1st, 2015 can expect to receive their unit by the end of June 2016. Anyone that pre-ordered on December 1, 2015 up to now can expect to receive their unit in Q3 2016.
We currently are taking orders worldwide, but there may be a delay for Navdy to ship to current countries. Please consult your national customs office for specific duties and tax rates. Navdy is not responsible for any import taxes, duties, or brokerages fees which may be incurred on your international order shipment. International shipping is $40 for the first unit and $20 for each subsequent Navdy unit included in your order.
The image is focused into the distance so the road stays in focus while the driver views the information presented by Navdy. The same technology is used in all commercial airplanes so the pilot can keep their eyes on the runway while landing the airplane.
We think you will love Navdy. But you can cancel the order and get a full refund at anytime before shipment. The product is likely to change before its release as we consider input from early adopters and continue to develop the technology. The product may be different from your expectations when it arrives. You will have a 30 day evaluation period where you may return the product if you find it's final form unsatisfactory. If you choose to return the product, you will be responsible for shipping fees.
We can ship your order worldwide. Orders destined for the U.S.A. will incur a $30 shipping fee for the first Navdy unit. International orders will incur a $40 shipping fee for the first Navdy unit. Additional Navdy units will incur a $20 shipping fee per Navdy unit.
Please remember that our products’s tech specs are subject to change as we continue to develop the product.
While you're driving, you can control Navdy entirely with touch less gesture controls and voice commands. You can configure all of Navdy's settings through the iOS and Android app on your phone.
Any music app that supports bluetooth can be controlled by Navdy (including Pandora, Spotify, iTunes and Google Music). Music apps can be controlled with gestures that will play, pause, and skip forward/back tracks. Your phone will need to connect to your car's sound system on its own.
We are currently developing all Navdy apps in-house. We plan to open up development to partners in the future, but we’re focusing on ensuring stability and compatibility with the core feature set first. If you are interested in developing for Navdy, please email us at email@example.com.
Navdy receives power from your car’s on-board diagnostics (OBD II) port. OBD II ports have been built into every car sold in America since 1996. Even if you’ve never seen yours, it’s definitely there! Usually it’s below the steering wheel just to the left. We will offer an optional accessory for cars without OBD II ports that will allow you to power your Navdy through your 12V power outlet.
Navdy will offer a variety of "friction mounts" to fit closely to any kind of car dashboard. The friction mounts are non-adhesive and can be removed without damaging your car's dashboard. Closer to launch we will send out an email to collect your shipping address and to determine what type of mount will be best for your car.
Navdy is being developed for iOS and Android. This means that Navdy works with most Android phones and all iPhones. We are not currently offering tablet support.
No! Navdy works without subscription fees. Navdy connects to the internet through your smart phone and does not need it's own Internet connection.
